6 Marks of a Disciple

This is the first book in the 6 Marks series and I am as excited as I can be for this new book. The book title is ‘What you do shows who you are: The 6 Marks of a Disciple of Jesus.’

With a deep heart to see the completion of the Great Commission, Mike Falkenstine believes the first step to Great Commission fulfillment is churches full of people who are in love with Jesus, and who want to know Him better and become more like Him! These Christians, whom we would call disciples of Jesus, can’t help but share what He has done in their lives and they want to tell anyone who will listen.

In his new book, What You Do Shows Who You Are: The 6 Marks of a Disciple of Jesus, Falkenstine walks you through 6 Key Marks of a disciple of Jesus and give you guidance along the way to grow in your walk with Jesus. With 8 discussion questions per chapter, Help Resources and a Leader’s Guide, this book is ideal for small group or Sunday School group study. Get a copy for each member of your small group today!

In this book, you’ll learn:

  • How to diagnose where you’re doing well in your relationship with Jesus and where you need help
  • How to share your testimony and a simple Gospel presentation as a part of being a disciple of Jesus
  • How important it is to have other brothers and sisters in Christ walking together with you in your journey with Christ. You’ll have opportunity to put this into practice as you engage in vigorous discussion about each chapter.

As Jesus was calling His first disciples, He spoke the simple command, “Follow me.” A disciple is a follower, one who believes and trusts in a teacher and follows that teacher’s words and example. To be a disciple is to be in a relationship. It is having an instructive, intimate, and imitative relationship with the teacher. There are some who try to distinguish between being a Christian and being a disciple, but the Bible never makes this type of distinction. As you read through the pages of  What You Do Shows Who You Are, the book will lead you on a path toward becoming a fully devoted follower of Jesus.

Resources

In the back of the book, I’ve given you several resources that you can use in your pursuit in becoming a fully devoted follower of Jesus. I also mention in this section that there are PDF versions of each resources that you can print out as a hand out for your group. You can find each resource here:

Sharing Your Testimony

There are a couple of resources here. At the YouTube page for One Eight Catalyst, you’ll find a 15 minutes video where Mike Falkenstine teaches you how to share your testimony. In addition, here is the one-page handout that you find both in the book and that Mike talks about in the training video.

Three Point Bible Study

Here is the one page Bible Study tool that is mentioned in the book. It’s nice to have this tool printed out as it’s just a bit easier to use than the same tool that you find in the book. It’s a great way to do a simple Bible Study on a topic.

Sharing the Gospel Through the Bridge Illustration

Again, Mike has filmed an instructional video on how to share the gospel using the Bridge Illustration, so feel free to go the YouTube page for One Eight Catalyst. In addition, here is the one-page sheet that you can use as you are learning how to share the Gospel using the Bridge Illustration. It is a great way to share the gospel anywhere and at anytime!
